In May 2022, criminal investigators from the City of Reading Police Department Vice Unit, identified Jonathan Raul Smith as a “street level” dealer who was selling cocaine within the City of Reading.
PERSON (S) INVOLVED:

CHARGES:
  • Possession with the intent to deliver (methamphetamine & cocaine)
  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine & cocaine)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

DETAILS OF INCIDENT:

In May of 2022, criminal investigators from the City of Reading Police Department Vice Unit, identified Jonathan Raul Smith as a “street level” dealer who was selling cocaine within the City of Reading. During the investigation, officers determined that although Smith was selling his product within the City of Reading, he was living and storing the illegal drugs at 201 Endlich Avenue, Mt. Penn, PA. Subsequently, in a joint effort, investigators from the Reading Police Department teamed-up with the Central Berks Police Department and Berks County Detectives.

On June 7, 2022, Berks County Magisterial District Judge Sandra Fegley authorized a search warrant for 201 Endlich Avenue Mt. Penn, PA.

On June 9, 2022, law enforcement from City of Reading Police Department, Central Berks Police Department and Berks County Drug Task Force, served the search warrant. Once inside the residence, Jonathan Raul Smith was located within the residence and detained without incident.  A search of the residence revealed the following items of evidence:
  • approximately eight hundred eighty-one (881) grams of suspected bulk methamphetamine
  • approximately eleven (11) grams of suspected “crack” cocaine
  • approximately thirteen (13) grams of suspected “powder” cocaine
  • eighty-four (84) bags of suspected crack cocaine
  • eight (8) bags of suspected powder cocaine
  • six (6) MDMA (ecstasy) pills
  • approximately $8,489 in United States currency believed to proceeds from illegal drug sales
  • paraphernalia including scale and packaging material  
*The total street value of the illegal drugs was estimated to be more than $47,000.00.

The defendant, Jonathan Raul Smith was charged and transported to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Center where he was arraigned and bail was set at $200,000. He remains in Berks County Jail awaiting further court proceedings.

As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant, Jonathan Raul Smith, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
