Maximize the return of investments held by the County according to statute and required regulation.

Goals & Objectives

The goals and objectives of the Treasurer’s Office are to complete the final phase of the comprehensive computerization plan of installing a state of the art laser check printing system, the interconnections of all 72 tax collectors on an online system maintained by the County, and bulk mailing of bar code process of approximately 160,000 pieces and individual tax notices.

About The Department

The Treasurer is the custodian of the County money. The Treasurer collects real estate taxes, fees and receipts to disburse all funds after authorization by the Controller and the Commissioners. This department also issues licenses for Bingo, Small Games of Chance, hunting, fishing, dogs, boats, and pistol permits (when used in conjunction with hunting and fishing). We also manage hotel tax for all hotels within the County limits.

Services

Dog Licenses

Do you have an updated dog license? State Law requires ALL dogs over 3 months of age to be licensed.

Fishing License

You qualify for a RESIDENT fishing license if you are a bona fide resident of Pennsylvania.

Hunting License

Hunting licenses generally start sale in June of each year.

Bingo License

The Bingo Law stipulates non-profit organizations which have existed and conducted business two years prior to application can place an application with the Treasurer's Office.

Small Games of Chance

A game of chance may be played as gambling if players wage money or anything of monetary value.

Hotel Tax

Hotel tax supports the important factor in the promotion and expansion of business, industry, commerce and tourism in the Berks County area

Tax Certification

To order a tax certification for the current year tax bill for properties within the city limits of Reading, please mail in your request including an email address along with a $25.00 check or money order.  Please complete the attached form and mail it to:

    Note: Parcel numbers that begin with 01 through 19 are the ones that are in Reading
  • For properties located outside the city limits for current year tax certification, contact the collector for the municipality where the property is located.
  • For prior years delinquent tax information, please contact the Tax Claim Department.
