DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On Monday, May 29, 2022, the Shillington Police Department were detailed to investigate a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred on May 26, 2022, at a private residence in Shillington Borough. Shillington Police Department then requested assistance from the Berks County Detectives Major Crime Unit.
As part of this investigation, the 51-year-old victim was interviewed and outlined the events leading up to the sexual assault.
A medical examination was performed on the victim at the Reading Hospital after the assault. DNA evidence was discovered as part of this examination. On November 22, 2022, a DNA sample was obtained from the defendant. A laboratory analysis conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Laboratory revealed that the defendant’s DNA matched the DNA samples collected from the victim.
On Thursday, April 20, 2023, the Defendant was charged with (2) counts of Rape, (2) counts of Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, (2) counts of Aggravated Indecent Assault, (1) count of Indecent Assault. He surrendered to members of the Berks County Detectives. The defendant was transported to the Central Processing Center located at the Berks County Courthouse. He was fingerprinted and photographed.
He had preliminary arraignment before Magisterial District Judge David L. Yoch, and bail was set at $250,000.00. Vasquez was committed to Berks County Jail. Bail was posted on his case on April 22, 2023, and he was subsequently released from Berks County Jail.
A Criminal Complaint is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
