Rehabilitation Services

Berks Heim has a designated Rehabilitation Unit designed for those who require therapy following a surgery, illness, or injury. The goal of our short-term rehab program is to assist individuals to achieve their personal goals based on their individual care plan. Berks Heim has spacious private rehabilitation suites. Our therapy team consists of licensed professionals who compose a core component of our interdisciplinary care team.  Individuals may receive skilled physical therapy, occupational therapy, and/or speech-language pathology intervention as ordered by a physician. The therapy team also works with Berks Heim residents in long term care to help them address their personal therapy goals.

Physical Therapy  

The physical therapy team at Berks Heim includes licensed physical therapists and licensed physical therapist assistants. The therapists work with individuals with a goal of improving mobility, reducing pain, maximizing safety, and restoring function. The team's skills include therapeutic exercises and activities, neuromuscular reeducation techniques, gait training, and education to address issues with muscle strength, balance, coordination, range of motion and gait.  

Occupational Therapy 

The occupational therapy team at Berks Heim includes licensed occupational therapists and certified occupational therapist assistants. The occupational therapy team works with residents to improve their ability to perform activities of daily living and improve safety and quality of life. Occupational therapy addresses goals focused on seating and positioning, splinting, bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, and self-feeding.  

Speech-language Pathology

Speech-language Pathologists at Berks Heim provide treatment to improve communication, speech, and cognitive skills. They also assess and treat individuals with swallowing difficulties to ensure appropriate diet textures focused on maximal safety with optimal nutrition and hydration.

Restorative Nursing Program

Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants with specialized training in rehabilitation techniques work with our residents to promote independence. This team utilizes their expertise to implement elements of the individualized care plan that help our residents achieve their care plan goals.
